Mature and Wise Women

Happy Mother's Day (2024) - Los Angeles Custom Portrait Photographer

Do you have a parent (or parents) that don’t get what you do? I’ve gotten two.

So, for as long as I’ve been a photographer, I don’t try explaining it to them.

But things changed last year. Many of my clients heard about my story in how I bit the bullet and decided to “walk the walk” (Remember, I’m supposed to
prove that every woman is beautiful no matter the age?). I offered my mom the opportunity to experience the Transformational Beauty Photography in my studio.

For someone that’s deeply rooted in a different culture, giving her just enough information so she can show up and enjoy the experience was a fine dance to perform. But let me tell you, I was delighted to witness how much she was giggling in her belly from the moment that I arrived to help her pick the outfits all the way to the end when she was making faces in front of the camera.

Not many words were offered afterwards by my mom. But now, I know she gets it in what I do with my women clients and the kind of transformation (inside and out) that they experience.

For someone that was a natural beauty, she’s struggled to accept the change in her look. I’m not trying to prove that she still looks the same as she was in her 20s or 30s. I wanted her to see that she is proof that a woman is still beautiful in her 70s.

Do you know that she wore the same dress to my wedding and everyone was raving about my beautiful mom afterwards?

The other day, I ran into
this article about Isabella Rossellini - a beauty in my opinion. Considering that my mom’s been around the sun for a few more times than she has, I’d say mom’s doing no too shabby. Do you think I’ve made the case with my fine photography? ;-)

Anyways, happy Mother’s Day! Enjoy it, savor it because today will never come back. I chanced upon some words that I wrote 13 years ago. I find myself enjoy reading it. I hope you do too:
Life is In the Moments, Celebrate it! I’ve got a photograph of both my mom and dad there as well.

"This is Fantasy Life" - Los Angeles Transformational Beauty Photographer

More than half a year ago, I shared Christina’s passing. I’ve finally gathered enough courage to go through her behind-the-scenes footage.

My clients say the most unexpected things during our photo shoot. In Christina’s case, she said “this is fantasy life” only second look into our session.

This video is far from being polished and fancy. It is all raw and real. What matters to me is what it does to your heart. It put a smile on my face. I hope it does you as well.

I’m photographing 40 women 40s, 50s, 60s+. Join me for a one-of-a-kind experience, including, but not limited to, professional hair & makeup, personal fashion styling, and your own magazine-style photo shoot. You'll be featured in my upcoming gallery exhibition and celebration.

Fallen Leaves, Dancing Lives - Los Angeles Transformational Beauty Photographer

I’ve been surrounded by an aura of sadness lately. Was it the longer shadows that the slanting rays of sun are creating on the ground? Is it the chilled temperatures brought on by darkness? Could it be the recent passing of Christina?

Especially Christina’s passing?

It’s not the first time that I cried when my clients leave this world. I was overwhelmed by the fact that there was no official goodbye. I was also unfortunately reminded, again, that I did not have as much time with them as I so ignorantly thought, although they clearly had serious illnesses. Yes, I said “again”, because it reminded me of how
Polly had passed when I still had an email from her in my inbox to reply to.

As I’m inevitably adding on tree rings to my life, I have finally waken up to the fact that I’m running out of time creating legacy.

I thank my clients for allowing me the privilege to experience lives enriched with deeply textured stories. It is with profound gratitude that I acknowledge the role each one played in shaping not only my artistic journey but also my perspective of life's fragility.

I will slowly work to share the work that Christina and I created together. I may cry. And I could smile, and even laugh looking at the footage from our photo session…

Until I surface again, I wanted to share this quote:

“Even those fallen leaves dance, on the musical wind cadence.”
— Anoushka Tyagi
